Welcome to the beautiful island of Barbados located at 13°N 59°W in the Caribbean. The most easterly island of the region it is the home of some of the most beautiful white sandy beaches in the world. The island is relatively flat with lush vegetation and fauna and near-perfect weather year-round.
Its coral core provide an excellent supply of drinking water that is amongst the purest in the world. The capital city is Bridgetown which is a great spot for duty-free shopping and sightseeing. A must-see is the Barbados Parliament buildings, some of the oldest in the western hemisphere
Barbados is rich in history and culture, activities, nightlife, music, and some of the best restaurants to be found anywhere. If you like great food and magnificent scenery then this is the place for you.
Barbados is also known for its warm and friendly people. The official language is English and there is also a local dialect spoken. The currency is the Barbados dollar. The exchange rate is roughly $2 BDS to $1 US.
Things to Do
Barbados is home to Harrisons Cave, a series of spectacular underwater caves and lakes, and there are many tours available.
Craving some excitement? Rent a Jet Ski or try your hand at deep-sea fishing or waterskiing. Snorkel among the fabulous coral reefs. swim with turtles or investigate a shipwreck.
Sample famous Caribbean rum on a brewery tour or discover the history of the island by visiting our many museums or beautiful St. Nicolas Abbey.
Beaches
Glitter Bay is nestled on the pristine west coast of Barbados. Luxurious white sand and tranquil turquoise water will greet you every day. Festivals & Events
Barbados has a wonderful array of carnivals, street fairs, sporting events, music, and cultural festivals throughout the year. Many of the cultural events bring tourists from around the world in addition to internationally acclaimed artists and local talent.
Nearby Holetown hosts the Holetown Festival, celebrating Barbadian history and culture, in February. Foodies may enjoy the Barbados Food & Wine & Rum Festival (November) while reggae enthusiasts should check out the Barbados Reggae Festival (April).
The Crop Over Festival is a vibrant celebration deeply rooted in the island’s rich cultural heritage. This annual extravaganza marks the end of the sugar cane harvest and commemorates the resilience of the Bajan people. Colorful costumes, pulsating rhythms of calypso and soca music, local delicacies, and infectious dancing fill the streets. The Crop Over festival runs for six weeks and ends in August with the Grand Kadooment parade where revelers adorned in elaborate costumes dance through the streets.
Golf, horse racing, polo, sailing, and even field hockey events are also hosted across the island throughout the year.
Shopping
Barbados is home to some of the best duty-free shopping in the Caribbean. Many luxury brands have retail outlets here that offer prices that are very competitive to major cities around the world. To take full advantage of this all you have to do is walk with your passport and departure card. Stores will show items with a local price (LP) and a duty-free price (DF) for tourists which is significantly cheaper.
Close to Royal Glitter Bay Villas is the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, home to various high fashion shops and intimate restaurants, and cafés.
In nearby Holetown, you’ll find Sunset Crest Shopping Mall and Chattel House Village. Sunset Crest has a department store, boutiques, a travel agency, and more while Chattel House Village is a local arts and crafts market.
Broad Street in Bridgetown is the main shopping street in the capital.
